CASE STUDY PRODUCTIVITY IMPROVEMENT

An expanded polystyrene manufacturing plant makes specialty packing materials for the electronics industry. The plant uses steam and cooling water intermittently in the process.

Deposit formation on mold cooling passages required curtailed production and chemical cleaning of the molds every month, which negatively impacted output and maintenance costs.

Trident recommended an extensive revision in how the plant managed cooling water. We changed to a new dispersant and inhibitor program, instituted new testing protocols and an operator training program, and implemented special monitoring practices.

Mold maintenance was extended from once a month to over 10 months.
Inspection showed no deposits in the molds. Increased production capacity generated an additional $347,000.
